Tiger's Nest
The sacred Buddhist site Paro Taktsang, known as Tiger’s Nest, has an elevation of over 10,000 feet. It clings to the side of a cliff 3000 feet above the Paro Valley. First constructed in 1692, it was built around a cave where it is said in the 8th century Guru Padmasambhava meditated uninterrupted for 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days and 3 hours. Padmasambhava is also known as Guru Rinpoche, which means ‘precious teacher’, and is credited with introducing Buddhism to Tibet and Bhutan.
