Bhutan Dance
A dancer performs at the annual Tshechu in Wangdue. A tshechu is a sacred dance festival in honor of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). Tshechu means ‘tenth day’ and refers to the Guru’s promise to return on the 10th day of each lunar month to dispel the people’s suffering. Because many of the Guru’s miraculous feats were accomplished through sacred dance, the sacred and folk dances performed at the tshechu can be seen as a way of representing his return.
