Backstrap Loom

Backstrap Loom

Maya women have been using the backstrap loom to weave textiles for millennia. The loom basically consists of sticks, rope, and a strap that is worn around the weaver's waist. The opposite end is anchored to a pole or other object. Most weavers kneels on the ground or a mat, while some opt for a short stool.
